About Us

The Canet Family’s vine growing tradition starts in the year 1919 by planting and reconverting the first malbec crop, destined to the production of artisan wines, made according to the principals of ancient homemade manufacturing, which then was enjoyed by the local people. The weather and agricultural conditions of a privileged land and the fruit quality of a limited production inspired passion and commitment in each winemaking process.

As time went by, their descendants continued this activity. Today, two members of the Founding Family’s third generation, manage the winery with the same outlined commitment, based on the balance between tradition and modernization.
Orientated to obtain, day after day, the best quality of its emblematic wines, as is its Malbec, made possible by the effort of their hard working employees, who provide adequate treatment to the crop, and the vine.

At the moment, the facility has a tank capacity of more than 900,000 liters and the latest equipment for vine fermentation, maceration and storage.
As a third generation, we know that our ancestors legated to us a tradition based on commitment and dedication to the vines as a keystone concept so that our wines could become state of the art ones, focusing on quality and passionate about perfection.

The winery is situated on Río Mendoza’s (Mendoza River) riverside, in the jurisdiction of Lujan de Cuyo, located at the foot of the Andes Mountain Chain.
Its special micro-climate with wide temperature range between day and night, and rocky land, rich in minerals, supplied by the river, were the main things taken into account by the first immigrants, at the moment of planting the first vineyards.

The Climate and The Land

Our vineyards are both situated in Perdriel, in the District of Luján de Cuyo, and in Barrancas, in the District of Maipú, all located in the province of Mendoza. The land is made up of little organic matter, with good deep drainage layers. The texture of the soil is mainly sandy clay loam. The surface is made up of alluvial sediments.

Watering takes place in a traditional manner through small narrow canals, fed by water from The Mendoza River coming from thawed ice, which is formed by the snowfall produced during the winter in the mountains.
These acequias run along the vines soaking the land with the purest and richest non-contaminated water.

The Province of Mendoza has a semi-arid climate, and its wide temperature range, close to 15º during daytime, which allows the fruit to ripen perfectly, obtaining sturdy wines of great colours and intense scents. Little rainfall and humidity plus moderate winds assure the balance between sugar and acidity in the broths.

Grape Harvest

All the work done during the year in the vineyard, previous to the harvest, is carefully supervised by our technicians, who limit the production per hectare guaranteeing the quality of the grapes; finally they control the ripeness of the crop according to the variety.

Our celebration called “Vendimia” takes place manually; usually during the last week of March; the fruit is reaped and put in crates with a capacity of 18 kg., taking into account all the sanitary conditions for the grapes. Once harvested, they are set in the interior of the winery to be selected and ground.
